At WABC Weekday Preschool we take seriously the call of Scripture in Psalms 78 to pass along the “praiseworthy deeds of the Lord to the next generation”. Our goal is to do this in a nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and safe environment.

We consider it a privilege to partner with families in fostering the spiritual and educational development of their preschool child. Our unique curriculum and amazing teachers provide these learning opportunities daily.

Weekday Preschool Schedule

The First Day

Each student will be assigned a “first day” to attend class. Half of the class will attend one day and the other half the next day (i.e. ½ of the class will attend 9-12 on Tuesday and the other half will attend 9-12 on Wednesday, and all will attend on Thursday). We do this in an effort to help each child acclimate to a new environment, his/her new teacher, and new classmates in a smaller, more manageable setting.  Classroom teachers will provide each child with a “first day” assignment prior to the start of school.

2's, 3's, PreK

Tuesday – Thursday, 9am-12pm

Transitional Kindergarten

Monday - Thursday, 9am-1pm

Annual Calendar

We provide an annual calendar detailing all holidays, opening/closing, special events, and more to families at our open house prior to the start of the school year. We follow the traditional preschool model for our calendar year as it pertains to the beginning and ending of the school year. We start preschool in the fall (September) and end for summer break (May).

Arrival/Dismissal

Preschool begins at 9:00, our doors will be opened at 8:55 – we do not provide early drop off. We want each child to feel a part of every moment of his/her school day, and that begins with a great start by arriving on time.

Inclement Weather

We follow the ISS schedule for closings due to weather as follows:

  • Iredell Schools Closed = Preschool Closed
  • 3 hour delay = Preschool Closed
  • 2 hour delay = Preschool opens at 10, with regular dismissal
  • 1 hour delay = Preschool regular schedule

If ISS chooses to close during the school day, you will be notified as to whether or not to pick your child up early at the Preschool.

Monthly Tuition for 2022-2023

Our 2’s, 3’s, and Pre-k is $140 a month.

Our T-K class is $175 a month.

Tips to Help You Get Ready for Preschool

  • Two to three weeks prior to the start of school, wake your child at the time you will have to get up to be on time for school.  Start the morning routine in advance and it will help create a seamless transition.
  • Prior to the start of school, begin giving your child “helper” assignments.  Ask him/her to pick up toys, hang up a coat, or help in a simple household chore.  This will help the child prepare for being a helper in the classroom.
  • If your child has not had prior experience with preschool or other group settings, arrange for a play group to help your child adjust to the social element that preschool provides.
  • Play school at home.  Take some time to set out your child’s stuffed animals, read a book, and have some circle time at home to help prepare for the idea of sitting and listening.
  • Honestly answer any questions about school your child may have.  Stay balanced when you talk about school - don’t try to make it out to be an amusement park or a sit still, be quiet, and listening environment.  Share honestly that there will be fun times and times to listen.
  • On the first day of school start a tradition: a special picture, special breakfast, or a special gift that you’ll repeat each year on the first day.
  • Try not to cry!  This one is for you, mom, try to keep it together that first day (although it may be hard) because your little one needs to know that it is all going to be o.k. and you are the person they will be looking at to see if it really is o.k.
  • Most of all, pray.  Pray for your child to have a smooth transition, for our teachers, and for the school overall.  Prayer is our greatest asset as parents; our Father in Heaven knows our needs and our child’s needs even more than we do.

Weekday Preschool Curriculum

Our curriculum has a two-fold purpose:

1. To introduce our students to Biblical truths that will serve as a foundation for their spiritual growth and development. We seek to achieve this through daily teaching that incorporates Bible stories, verses, songs, and through modeling.

2. To build an educational foundation that will foster an interest in learning by teaching students on a developmentally appropriate level in such a way that they may learn, comprehend, and retain.

One of the many educational components of our curriculum is the Letterland literacy curriculum.  Letterland is used on an age appropriate level in every class. Any student that has gone through our program will have familiarity and understanding of Letterland prior to entering kindergarten.

Our classrooms provide experiences that are challenging to students yet not so difficult that they cannot understand or grasp the desired concept.  Opportunities for exploration are provided through various centers, play, and one-on-one teaching time.

No Membership Required

You don't have to be a member of Western Avenue for your little one to be a part of the exciting, Christ-focused learning at our weekday preschool.

Our FOCUS

Our FOCUS is based upon the Biblical truth found in Psalms 78 –“We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.”

F- Family

We will emphasize the importance of family and encourage parents in their efforts to rear their preschooler.

O- Others

We will seek to teach preschool aged children to recognize others in their community and world as helpers and leaders.  We also will seek to help preschoolers understand that they can be a helper in the class, the home, the community, and the world.

C- Christ centered

We will seek to ensure that each area of our school (from Christian teachers to curriculum) flows from our desire to be a Christ centered school.

U – User–Friendly

We will seek to be “user-friendly” for parents. This simply means that we will seek to make each process from registration to the car pick-up line user-friendly for parents. We will also work as a staff to be available to parents, to provide timely and helpful communication, and to be a resource for families.

S- Students

We will seek to care for the children entrusted to us with a whole person approach addressing their mind, body, and spirit through our daily teaching and special events/activities.
