WABC Update 3/19

I wanted to wait until later in the week before sending this update about our Sunday morning services and other ministries. The situation continues to change at such speed that it is difficult to keep up. In the midst of an avalanche of information, I want to give some important and essential information about Western Avenue in the days and weeks to come.

  • We will livestream our worship service this Sunday at 11:00 AM.  It appears we will have to do so until further notice. As we draw near to the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus, we will continue our five-week study of Isaiah 52-53. Last week, we worked through Isaiah 52:13-15, learning of Jesus’ ultimate success through unexpected humiliation that results in the highest praise. This week, in Isaiah 53:1-3, the prophet wonders who will believe this incredible news. Many will not for the reasons found in this week’s verses. We, however, see through these shallow reasons to the deep beauty of Christ’s true person and purpose.
  • All activities and events in the building have been cancelled until at least April 4. We are in deep discussion about the upcoming Easter Sunday services.
  • The livestream of the worship service can be found on our church’s website and Facebook page. While many were able to watch the service on the church’s website, many of you had difficulty. The fact that some could and some could not indicates the issue is not with our broadcast of the service. It seems a major factor is ADOBE FLASH software on computers. At this time, Flash is necessary to watch on our website. We are in the middle of revamping our website and we are told this will soon be a problem no longer. Until then, you can either download Adobe Flash (and you may have to do this each week) or watch the service on Facebook. Since our Facebook page is public, you do not have to have a Facebook account to watch. You can use any browser to enter this address:  https://www.facebook.com/wabcstv.
  • Andy Lackey will continue to offer a single online class each Wednesday night at 6:30 PM. You can access this class on the church’s Facebook page (see address above).
  • A high percentage of the offerings we receive are given on Sunday mornings as we “pass the plate.” Many of us need this weekly visual reminder. In its absence, I want to encourage you to consider giving electronically through your own bank or through the church’s website at https://www.westernavenue.org/give
  • The church office is open Monday through Friday. If you need to come to the office, please enter through the Preschool door under the drive-through.
  • The counseling center is open Monday through Friday. If you have an appointment, you may still enter in the back of the church.
  • The elementary offices of Statesville Christian School are open.
  • Please consider giving non-perishable food items to help feed children in our community. Many only eat a good meal at school. You may drop off items in the back of the church under the drive-through.
  • You will soon see large white tents in our east parking lot. Piedmont Healthcare has contacted the church about setting up mobile care centers for doctor-appointed tests and exams. Please avoid this parking lot to keep traffic to a minimum and lower any risks.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. This is uncharted territory for all of us. As you do with your family, we will rely on the Lord to protect and provide as we walk in faith with Him!
