The Psalmist wrote, “It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.” Man was created to worship the Lord and bring glory to His holy name.

At Western Avenue Baptist Church, we recognize the power of praising God and embrace worship as the cornerstone of what we do. We want to magnify the Lord with our music and singing. When God is magnified, He becomes greater in our perspective. Our desire is to bring people to a moment of personal encounter with the living God. As we give praise and worship to God, His Spirit freely works in us to bring about forgiveness, encouragement, peace and an increased faith and assurance of His love.

Many people leave a service thinking only about what they got out of it. At Western Avenue, we are more concerned with what God thought of the service. If you live in Statesville and are looking to add an exciting dimension to your spiritual life, then we invite you to join us in our mission to lift high the name of Jesus through music!

Celebration Choir

The Celebration Choir is a dedicated, enthusiastic group who loves to worship through the gift of music. This choir serves faithfully as worship leaders each Sunday morning in both the 8:30 and 11:00 am services.  The Celebration Choir is involved in presenting other special programs throughout the year.  It's Christmas! is our annual celebration that includes many special guests from the community and has become one of the largest outreaches of the WABC Music Ministry.  Musical styles shared by this choir include everything from the great traditional hymns of the church to the awesome new praise and worship songs being written and sung today.  The Celebration Choir is composed of people with a broad range of ages and musical backgrounds.  Traditional, Contemporary, Southern Gospel, Gospel... you name it and you will find that it is enjoyed by the Celebration Choir.

It is a goal of the Celebration Choir to present the truths of the Gospel in heart-stirring music, not as a performance to the congregation, but as a personal gift to our Father.  It is our belief that worship should be in every aspect of our daily walk of life.  Rehearsal time is approached with this same thought.  We are not preparing for a time of worship but worshipping as we prepare.  It is our desire to know that at the time of presenting a song during a Sunday service or special event we can say to our Father, "I have prepared and I am offering my best, please take this, bless this, and may You be honored and glorified in all that is done."  The Lord has blessed this church with incredible talents and beautiful voices to give praise to the Lord.
If you have a heart for worship and feel that you have been gifted in the area of music, then we invite you to become a part of the Celebration Choir. There is no audition and participation is open to anyone in high school and older.  Regular rehearsal is each Sunday 4:00 - 5:30 beginning in the Worship Center. Join us for a time of great fellowship and worship.  For additional information concerning the Celebration Choir, please contact Rodney Harrison.

Celebration Orchestra

The Celebration Orchestra is a dedicated group of musicians that accompany the Celebration Choir and congregation each Sunday morning in both the 8:30 and 11:00 am services as well as special programs throughout the year.  Although words may not be expressed, the desire of worshipping through the playing of instruments is evident in all that is presented by this ensemble.  God has blessed Western Avenue with many talented musicians and the experience during our time of worship through music is elevated with the efforts and participation of this group.

The Celebration Orchestra currently includes the use of piano, organ, keyboards, rhythm, and bass guitars as well as percussion instruments.  There are strings: Cello, Viola, and Violins, a woodwind section: Oboe, Clarinet, Flute and Saxophone, and a brass section: Trombones, French Horn, and Trumpets.  Participation in the Celebration Orchestra is open to anyone in high school and older.  An audition is not required but a level of proficiency examination is.
If you have a heart for worship and have been gifted with the ability to play an instrument then we invite you to become a part of the Celebration Orchestra.  Regular rehearsal is each
