There are two ways of looking at a church: what the church can do for you and what you can do for the church. We encourage people to view Western Avenue Baptist Church through both perspectives.
We offer ministries to provide something of worth for every member of your family. As you engage in the ministries of the Body, you will grow in your walk with the Lord and in your relationships with new friends. We also provide ministry opportunities for you to exercise the gift that God has granted you. There truly is something for everyone at Western Avenue Baptist Church. A few or our ministries are described below and you'll find detailed information about others from the menu.
Good News Club® is a Bible-centered after-school program which reaches elementary children. WABC partners with Child Evangelism Fellowship® to provide three Good News Clubs in local schools. CEF® is an international organization that ministers directly to children in sharing the Gospel through Good News Clubs. The children attending club experience life-changing Bible lessons, learn songs, Bible verses, missionary stories, and participate in fun review games. You can join the team of CEF trained workers who go into the schools one day a week immediately after school releases. Between the three clubs Western Avenue hosts and the members that assist county wide, we have over 50 people involved in reaching children on an ongoing basis. For more information please contact the church office (704.872.4139) or the CEF of NC Western Piedmont Chapter.
We believe this is one of the best times to anchor your life in God's Word and among His people. If you develop the habit of finding your guidance in God's Word and solidifying your commitment to His Church, then you will be well underway to maturity as a Christian. College & Career Sunday School is where you can really connect with other young adults. Enjoy a few breakfast items, great fellowship, and rich application for life from biblical books.
Knowledge and application of God’s Word is an essential component of the Christian walk. Since 1992, Western Avenue has offered over twenty Precept Bible study courses as part of our continuing commitment to help equip believers in this vital area of growth. We meet on Thursday mornings from 9:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. Childcare is available by reservation. There is no cost for the childcare but donations are welcomed for this service. Classes are open to men and women and we would love for you to join us. The first hour of each class is a lecture based on the passage of Scripture assigned that week and the second hour consists of watching a video from the Precept Ministries team of teachers. During the week, students are encouraged to spend up to one hour each weekday on homework to prepare for the weekly class.
Caroline Cartin teaches the Thursday morning class. She is the wife of our Pastor Emeritus, the mother of three children, and grandmother of six. While working locally as a pharmacist, Caroline has taught Precept courses since 1992.
GriefShare is a special seminar and spport group for people grieving the loss of somone close. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult season in your life. Each GriefShare session includes a video seminar and group discussion from a Biblical perspective on topics such as "Living with Grief," "The Effects of Grief," "Why?" and many more.
