Exodus 3:10 - 4:17
3:10 Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” . . . 13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” . . . 4:1 Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The LORD did not appear to you.’” . . . 10 But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” . . . 13 But [Moses] said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.”
The title Deacon Emeritus is given to those who have served Western Avenue Baptist Church faithfully over the years. The word emeritus, which means “out of merit,” refers to one who is discharged from active service yet retains the title of the position as a form of honor. On January 31, 2018, the church voted to bestow the title of Deacon Emeritus on Sanford Sain. Sanford married Gwen in 1969 and they have three children: Stacy, Cindy, and Joel. Sanford and Gwen joined Western Avenue in 1973 and was ordained as a deacon a few years later. He has served continuously since then except for a few years in the early 2000s when he underwent a liver transfer. Thank you, Sanford, for decades of faithful service to your brothers and sisters in Christ at Western Avenue. Sanford joins Eber Hudson as a current holder of the title Deacon Emeritus.
Lyla-Mae Davis, daughter of Luke and Mary Davis, and Campbell Claire and Rowe Marie, daughters of Bradley and Anna Messick, will be dedicated to the Lord on Sunday, February 25.

New Class Begins February 13 - Christianity Explored is an informal 7-week course for people who would like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. Looking at Mark's gospel, this course explores who Jesus is, why he came, and what it means to follow him. Whether you are just exploring the Christian faith, are a new believer, or if you have been a Christian all of your life, you are welcome to participate. This is a great opportunity for our WABC members to bring their friends and those in the community who may not be believers, or are intimidated by the thought of attending “normal” church. Christianity Explored gives time and space to think about the big questions as we study Mark’s gospel and let the gospel tell the gospel. A meal will be served in the Multipurpose Room at 6:30 PM, with the study taking place from 7-8:00 PM. The course and meal are free! You may register at the Information Desk or contact Andy Lackey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
GriefShare - GriefShare is a support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. Each weekly session includes a video seminar and small group discussion. Begins on Wednesday, February 7 , 6:30 PM, and continues for 13 weeks; join anytime during the series. Meetings will take place in Room 153.

Missions Scholarship Fund/2018 - Western Avenue has been privileged by the support of our members to send several short term missionaries to unengaged peoples around the world. In 2017, Western Avenue sent 70+ adults and students to various places across our world to continue the Great Commission! This year, the missions committee has developed a plan to use scholarship funds to support short term missionaries but also to assist those who go to serve for longer durations such as 1 month to 2 year terms. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to the support of our members for various mission opportunities in Portland, South America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Would you join me on March 4 and March 11 in supporting limitless short term, mid-term, and long term missionaries to be sent globally? Please use the special envelopes (Missions) in front of your seat to make checks to the attention of missions scholarship or special missions.
