Our culture is constantly telling us that we can achieve anything we set our mind to. Sadly, many followers of Christ and many churches have adopted this self-sufficient mindset, relying on their own wisdom and abilities instead of relying on God. But what if we were never intended to be self sufficient? And what if God has designed us so that our greatest satisfaction is found as we depend on Him fully for everything we need? In Secret Church 19 we will take an in-depth look at the Bible’s teaching on prayer and fasting. We will see that our inabilities and weaknesses are the very place where God meets us with His strength and sufficiency. We will also see that faithfulness to the mission of Christ requires depending on the Spirit of Christ. Through prayer and fasting, we demonstrate our need for God’s power and our desire for His glory.
Joy Prom Training – April 30 in WABC Fellowship Hall
For those who have volunteered to help with the Joy Prom, there will be a volunteer training meeting on Tuesday, April 30 at 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall at Western Avenue Baptist Church…..NOT at the Statesville Civic Center. The Statesville Civic Center has another event that evening. However, we will be able to show you where you need to be and what you will need to do at our training meeting. While attendance is not mandatory, we do highly suggest you attend if possible. Also, if you have not yet volunteered, there is still time. Our biggest need right now is for additional host/hostesses. At our training, we will spend time with our host/hostesses going over exactly what that role entails. It is a wonderful way to serve and can truly be a life-changing experience! For more information, please contact Andy Lackey at 704-872-4139 or email@example.com
Just As I Am, the disability ministry of Western Avenue Baptist Church will be hosting our fifth annual Joy Prom on Friday, May 3. Our theme this year is The Enchanted Forest! Joy Prom is an event for individuals with special needs ages 14 and up, and also for their families. Our guests will be treated to an evening of fun activities including photo booths, dancing, and entertainment. The Joy Prom is a great event for everyone in our church family to participate. There are many ways you can serve, and more information about volunteer opportunities can be found on our church website. Volunteer registration is now open, also at the WABC website. For more information contact Andy Lackey at 704-872-4139, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
