The Substitute for Satisfaction

In Exodus 25-31, God gives His people the specific instructions on how to build the tabernacle, which included the altar. The fire in the altar could never go out; it had to be kept burning continuously. God himself lit the fire and the people brought sacrifices every day and kept the fire burning. Surely, they got to the point when they wondered, "God, when is enough? When have we sacrificed enough?" How overwhelming... which was really God's point. God demands satisfaction, but he will never be satisfied. But, God has provided a substitute for that satisfaction! We wonder, "When is it enough?" We want to do better and be better and attend more. But, we can't ever measure up. God has provided a perfect substitute. The sacrifices pointed to a substitute who was to come. God was satisfied with Jesus. When Jesus died on the cross, he said, "It is finished." It is done. He didn't say, "It has begun." The gospel message is not to DO better. It's already been DONE. It is done. God is perfectly satisfied with you in Christ.
