This past Sunday, we studied Psalm 13, a Psalm of Lament. The Psalm follows the typical Psalm of Lament pattern as we see David go from a complaint to a cry to confidence. David feels very forgotten by God. Asking how long God will turn his face from him. We know, though, God will never leave us. God’s face is always turned toward us. No matter where you are in life, God is by you, leading you, holding you in the palm of his hand.
In verses 3-4, we see the cry of David pleading with God to answer him. Then, we see David transition to the confidence he has in the Lord. But, I have trusted in your steadfast love. We see where he now has confidence in the Lord and the goodness of the Lord that he will deliver him. He has confidence in the goodness and graciousness of the Lord.
We can choose to trust in God’s goodness and mercy even when things feel like they are not good. When you take your complaint and combine it with your confidence, you get hope. Then you can rejoice!
