Matt and Kim Clendenin started attending Western Avenue when their daughter was born and then joined in 2006. They have two children, Emma and Sam, and have been married for 16 years. They work together at R. Gregory Jewelers and love the relationships they build through their business.
Kim grew up in another local Baptist church and Matt in a local Presbyterian church. They attended church on Sundays, but after having a child, they felt it was time to be more serious. They knew they wanted to raise their family in an active church with active youth. Growing up in Statesville, Kim went to school with WABC youth and could always see the difference in them. She could tell the Western Avenue kids seemed more grounded. They knew Western Avenue was where they wanted to raise their family. After about a year of attending, they knew this was where God clearly wanted them to call home.
The Clendenins have been so excited to serve at WABC in several different capacities from helping with Joy Prom, serving meals for Christianity Explored classes and being in It’s Christmas. Matt is on the safety team. Kim and Emma have been able to be a part of London Bridges the past several years.
This family says there is so much to appreciate about Western Avenue. The staff is amazing. Kim appreciates the way they came alongside her family when her father passed away and the way they just support families in everyday life. The Clendenins cherish all the friendships they’ve made and wouldn’t have without this church. They also love the way WABC has introduced them to missions, something they hadn’t really ever thought about. By being given the opportunity to go, it has profoundly impacted their lives and something they will be forever grateful for.
They are so excited about the future at WABC. This church has such a heart and vision for not only impacting the local community, but also the world and they can’t wait to see where God leads.
