Ministries
Serve and Be Served
There are two ways of looking at a church: what the church can do for you and what you can do for the church. We encourage people to view Western Avenue Baptist Church through both perspectives.
We offer ministries to provide something of worth for every member of your family. As you engage in the ministries of the Body, you will grow in your walk with the Lord and in your relationships with new friends. We also provide ministry opportunities for you to exercise the gift that God has granted you. There truly is something for everyone at Western Avenue Baptist Church. A few or our ministries are described below and you'll find detailed information about others to the right.
Just a Few...
College & Career
We believe this is one of the best times to anchor your life in God's Word and among His people. If you develop the habit of finding your guidance in God's Word and solidifying your commitment to His Church, then you will be well underway to maturity as a Christian. College & Career Sunday School is where you can really connect with other young adults. Enjoy a few breakfast items, great fellowship, and rich application for life from biblical books.
Precept Bible Study
Knowledge and application of God’s Word is an essential component of the Christian walk. Since 1992, Western Avenue has offered twenty-two Precept Bible study courses as part of our continuing commitment to help equip believers in this vital area of growth. We meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. Childcare is available by reservation. There is no cost for the childcare but donations are welcomed for this service. Both classes are open to men and women and we would love for you to join us. The first hour of each class is a lecture based on the passage of Scripture assigned that week and the second hour consists of watching a video from the Precept Ministries team of teachers. During the week, students are encouraged to spend up to one hour each weekday on homework to prepare for the weekly class.
Caroline Cartin teaches the Wednesday morning class. She is the wife of our pastor and the mother of three children and grandmother of one. While working locally as a pharmacist, Caroline has taught Precept courses since 1992.
GriefShare
GriefShare is a special seminar and spport group for people grieving the loss of somone close. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult season in your life. Each GriefShare session includes a video seminar and group discussion from a Biblical perspective on topics such as "Living with Grief," "The Effects of Grief," "Why?" and many more. Scouting
Troop 360 is an active boy scout troop that meets every Monday from 7PM to 8:30PM in rooms 175-179. If you are interested in joining, come to any meeting or send an email to Mike Souther. Our goal is to guide boys to becoming Godly, well-mannered men who contribute to their community. We plan various activities that include camping, hiking, rafting, skiing, and other outdoor activities. Boys work on merit badge and rank advancement during our outings and regular meetings.
