  WORSHIP

choir from balcIn the fourth chapter of John's Gospel, Jesus Christ revealed a great truth of worship. Jesus was speaking to a woman who had the idea you had to go to certain places and do certain things in order for God to accept a person's offering of worship. In reply, Jesus stated that "The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

Jesus seems to be saying that God is not as concerned with the "trappings" of the worship service. Western Avenue meets in a beautiful worship center but God is not impressed with that.  God is simply concerned with the heart from which worship originates.

Furthermore, God is actively searching for those who will worship Him with a heart that is wholly His. It is our prayer that God finds a multitude of such individuals, worshipping Him from the depths of their hearts out of gratitude for what He has done and for the simple fact that He alone is Worthy!

congregation from balcWorship means many things to many people and churches. The important thing is what worship means to God. For many churches, worship is a playground. For some, worship is a battle ground. For the Lord and for Western Avenue, worship is Holy Ground.  Worship is the reason we exist, as an individual and as a church, to commune with the God who made us and loves us. We must begin with the WHO of worship, not with the HOW of worship.  The Lord told Jeremiah that “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  That is our prayer for you as you join us in worship this Sunday morning.

We invite you to join us each Lord’s Day for one of our two worship services. We meet at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM in the Worship Center. While worship is so much more than just music, song is a large part of the worship experience. The music in our worship services can best be described as blended. We praise God in recognizing the heritage of the great hymns of our faith as well as new praise and worship songs being inspired today.  We utilize state-of-the-art computor and video equipment for the projection of song lyrics and scripture passages on dual screens above the choir and platform.

Skip preachOur worship service is centered on the reading and preaching from God's Holy Word. Skip Cartin, our pastor, is a passionate preacher and expositor of the Bible, going verse-by-verse through books of the Bible on Sunday mornings. His messages, while thoroughly biblical, are practical and address the needs you have today because the Bible is practical and addresses the needs you have today.

Children who have not yet entered elementary school join us for worship each morning for a portion of both services. The children meet in their class and then walk as a group to sit in the first few rows of the sanctuary. They participate in the praise and worship and leave to attend Children’s Church during the time immediately prior to the sermon. While in Children’s Church, they will hear a lesson from the Bible, sing songs, make crafts, enjoy a small snack and play fun games.  You may pick up your child in their room at the conclusion of the service

We provide childcare during all our worship services for children up to 3 years of age. We have a new state-of-the-art preschool building that will offer lots of room to grow and enjoy being in God’s house. Our nursery is staffed with loving and caring men and women who provide a safe and nurturing environment for your child, freeing you to participate in the worship of our King.

We meet for worship, prayer and preaching on Sunday evenings at 6:00 PM in the church sanctuary.  This hour is very casual and provides a variety of messages and speakers. Often, our associate church staff members teach, along with qualified lay leaders and guest speakers.  The messages are very practical in nature, dealing with issues and topics that are of interest to the congregation and community.  Many mission trip reports are presented by church members on Sunday evenings as well.   We also present special music programs by the Celebration Choir and Instruments and Equipping to Praise Choirs on Sunday evenings throughout the year.

Our teens meet for a special worship service called "The Bridge" each Sunday night at 6:00 PM in the church’s multi-purpose room. They are led by Brian Burgess and Mark Collins, our ministers of students, and a Praise Band made up of students.  They meet to sing the latest and greatest of today’s contemporary worship songs. Brian then delivers a challenging message that our teens desperately need to hear.
