 EQUIPPING UNIVERSITY
EU-Bibles1WHAT?

In the summer of 2000, our pastor had a vision. He dreamed of hundreds of people attending numerous elective classes offering our members, guests and the community an opportunity to learn more about the Bible as it applies to their daily lives.

Numerous churches have “Discipleship Training” courses. However, we began to think of going a little further with that idea. Ultimately, Equipping University is a systematic educational journey similar in scope to the curriculum at a small Christian college.

In Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he reminded the young minister that “all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  We want to offer classes on every level  so that each and every person learns how the Bible intersects with life and is equipped with Biblical knowledge to be ready to face the world and all its challenges.

In the past few years, classes on many different subjects have been taught. Take a look at recent classes offered:
  • Theology & Bible: What Baptists Believe, Old Testament Survey, One Minute After You Die, Introduction to Reformed Theology, The Image of God & Man, The Mind of Christ, John, Acts, Romans, 2 Peter, Unlocking the Scriptures, The Atonement, Women of the Bible, Knowing & Worshipping God, The Feasts of Israel, Sermon on the Mount, The Beatitudes, Heresy!, That The World May Know with Ray VanderLaan, Church History, Highlights From Hebrews, How to Share Your Faith, Heaven, and more.
  • Family: Parenting Today’s Adolescents, Making Love Last Forever, Grandparenting By Grace, Parenting With Love & Logic, The Five Love Languages, Homes of Honor, Successful Step-Families, Wise Counsel, The Power of a Praying Wife, Jesus on Money, and more.
  • Other: Crafts for Christmas, First Place, Sign Language, Simple Sewing, Basic Budgeting, Sound Engineering, Computers, Healthy Living, Quilt Making, Horse Care, Basic Lawn Care, Introduction to Home Schooling, Understanding Your Personality,  Keys to Cardiovascular Health, Your Child's Dental Health and much more.
WHEN?
Equipping University begins at 6:30 PM on Wednesday nights on a “quarter” schedule.  A selection of up to twelve classes are offered for anywhere from eight to thirteen weeks.  The fall quarter begins in September and last 12-13 weeks through the end of November. The winter quarter lasts for eight weeks in January and February. The spring quarter lasts 12-13 weeks in March, April and May. The summer quarter begins in early June and lasts until the end of August.

WHO?
Anyone who desires to study God’s Word in order to begin or continue to grow in his or her Christian walk is welcome. You do not have to be a Christian or a church member to participate. All classes are open to the community.

WHERE?
Although classes change each semester, they are generally located in the rooms used by our Adult Sunday School classes in our new Education wing. A current directory can be found in our Welcome Center or at numerous information stands in the church hallways or church office. Please ask for an “Equipping University” brochure, which lists class offerings and locations. The main Equipping University page will have class descriptions and room assignments as soon as they are made (also check the weekly "Witness").

HOW MUCH?
Generally speaking, there is no cost for the courses offered. However, some classes might utilize a workbook or offer the opportunity to purchase the book on which the class is based. For some classes, these materials are necessary and this information will be readily available in each semester’s class listing.  If a class requires or suggests the purchase of books or study guides, these materials may be purchased at cost.
