Ecclesiastes

Teacher: Jeff Durham

Ecclesiastes is often looked upon as the Bible’s resident alien. Other books may be considered perplexing (Job? Revelation?) but many read Ecclesiastes with this thought: “Why is this book in the Bible?” Many statements in this book are puzzling and some even appear to be false! The book opens with amazing pessimism and despair: “Everything is meaningless.” The book famously teaches to “eat, drink, and be merry” and even seems to challenge the idea of an afterlife. Is life even worth living? In what sense can Ecclesiastes be called a word from God? What can we learn from it? Why is it in the Bible? How should you respond to its message? There is much here to learn and you will be greatly enriched as you study this important book together. God put this book in the Bible for a reason!
